Substack Restack

What is Substack Restack?

A Substack restack is a feature that allows users to share posts, notes, and comments with their subscribers in Notes. Users can start a new conversation in the Home feed on Substack by 'restacking.' This feature is similar to a LinkedIn repost and X’s (formally known as Twitter) reposts. Users may add their comments as text when they reshare a post. However, they may also restack without any additional text. This feature allows Substack users to amplify content they find exciting and allows users to share with their subscribers.

What's the TLDR?

Frequently creating and publishing Substack posts may be overwhelming for most Substack users as they want to make longer and higher quality content while retaining the interest of their subscribers. It is important to note that users may have a restriction where only their subscribers may have access to reply to their restacks; users should continue to post their content as if they never post their own content, then they will quickly lose interest from their audience. Substack Restack is an excellent tool, and many users find that they can use the Restack feature to their advantage, as restacking has many benefits.

Benefits of Making Substack Restacks:

  • Showcasing other content: Users can share content that they find valuable to their subscribers, which increases their visibility and expands the audience of the original creator.
  • Strengthen Communities: Restacking helps Substack users promote each other’s work, thus building a stronger sense of community. Restacking also allows users to connect with other users with similar interests.
  • Discovery: Subscribers may be exposed to new creators they have not seen before through current creators they follow. This allows both creators and subscribers to benefit as their visibility widens.

Increased Engagement:

Users can engage more with their audience by sharing content that aligns with their interests. This also creates a space for Substack users to have meaningful conversations and build a deep connection with each other.

Tell Me More

While users may not profit from restacking, the tool is helpful for users as they can grow their audience through public access content. By regularly posting and showing that the user is active on the platform, it helps subscribers continue to pay and stay subscribed. While it is good to restack and maintain an online presence, the key to success on Substack is to focus on quality over quantity. Therefore, users should repost content they find will resonate well with their audience as well as ensure that they are maintaining a decent upload schedule to ensure that their audience is exposed to their original content with some bonus thoughts between publishing each Substack post.

Restacking Options

As stated above, users may restack a post with or without comments. The restacking feature provides the user with the option to repost a certain part or quote of the original post they found.  If the user only wanted to repost a certain part of someone else’s Substack Post, they may restack the quote by highlighting the snippet in the post and then select ‘Restack quote’.

Benefits of Restacking

Substack’s restacking feature benefits any kind of user. Restacking is excellent for both writers and readers of Substack and benefits the Substack community as a whole. This feature enhances the user experience of Subtract users by providing a lot of critical advantages. Here is a list of the benefits for both creators and readers.

For Creators:

  • Widen Visibility: Restacking allows users to have their content reach a broader audience as other users would share it with their own subscriber. This will lead to new readers discovering the user's work.
  • Growing an Audience: Users may attract new subscribers when their content is discovered through shares. This growth is precious for users who are looking to expand their audience and find users who enjoy their content and want to become new subscribers.
  • Networking and making connections: The restack feature allows for users to collaborate and create connections with other creators on Substack. Users may share each other’s posts showing support for one another and fostering a sense of partnership. The restack allows users to find new creators and expand their network.
  • Strengthen credibility: If a creator has content that is reposted often, it is a good indication that they are a good writer that produces quality work. Similarly users that repost high quality posts and related content tend to also post original content with similar quality. This allows for creators to gain trust with their audience as they are proven to be a trusted and reliable creator.
  • More Content for their subscribers: Creators can benefit from restacking to share relevant content to their subscribers, adding to their newsletter and keeping their audience engaged while they wait for a post to be published.

For Readers:

  • Exposed to More Content: Readers are able to discover new writers and newsletters that they might not have been able to find otherwise. The restack feature introduces readers to new creators, voices, and perspectives.
  • Curated Content: Readers benefit from being exposed to content they’ve shown similar interest in. Especially when creators they already follow repost similar content to their brand. This allows readers to have a well curated feed with content they value being highlighted to them.
  • Community Discussion: Reposts allow for others to join the conversation and add their thoughts or questions. Readers can see what other people in their network are reading and find recommendations. Restacking allows for a welcoming community with more interactivity and engagement between users.
